Vocab of the Day #6

  1. dormant : lying asleep or as if asleep; inactive. Temporarily quiescent. (dormant volcano. a dormant reading enthusiast.)
  2. adage : A saying that sets forth a general truth and that has gained credit through long use.
  3. stint : a length of time spent in a particular way. A fixed amount or share of work allotted. A limitation or restriction. (a two-year stint in the military. working without stint.)
  4. tether : to fasten or restrict with or as if with a tether/rope. (too tethered to my headphones)

Vocab of the Day #5

  1. xenophobia : an unreasonable fear, distrust, or hatred of strangers, foreigners, or anything perceived as foreign or different.
  2. incumbent : an individual who is in current possession of a particular office and who is legally authorized to discharge the duties of that office.
  3. gubernatorial : of or relating to a governor.
  4. vaudeville : light theatrical entertainment, popular in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, consisting of a succession of short acts. A vaudeville show usually included comedians, singers, dancers, jugglers, trained animals, magicians, and the like.
  5. conglomerate : a corporation made up of a number of different companies that operate in diversified fields.

Vocab of the day #4

NBA Basketball Terms
  1. money : the term used when a sure shot is made, it's just like depositing money into your account.
  2. from downtown : to do a 3 pointer shot. Basically to mean to do a shot from quite a distance.
  3. nothing but net (swish) : a shot that does not hit the rim and goes right through the net.
