Vocab of the Day #8

  1. insipid : Lacking flavor or zest; not tasty. Lacking qualities that excite, stimulate, or interest; dull. (putting up an insipid performance)
  2. chagrin : A keen feeling of mental unease, as of annoyance or embarrassment, caused by failure, disappointment, or a disconcerting event. (To her chagrin, the party ended just as she arrived.) To cause to feel chagrin; mortify or discomfit (He was chagrined at the poor sales of his book.).
  3. fervor : Great warmth and intensity of emotion. Ardor or intensity of feeling. (The speaker needed to calm the fervor of the crowd before actually giving the speech.)
  4. bourgeois : A person belonging to the middle class. A person whose attitudes and behavior are marked by conformity to the standards and conventions of the middle class. In Marxist theory, a member of the property-owning class; a capitalist.Of, relating to, or typical of the middle class. Held to be preoccupied with respectability and material values. ( She thought of herself as a bourgeois.)
  5. hoodwink : To take in by deceptive means; deceive. To cause to accept what is false, especially by trickery or misrepresentation (Some students try to hoodwink their parents into thinking that there is no homework.)
